Tunisia’s grain harvest fell 1.4 percent after February flooding destroyed some fields, according to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Farmers in the North African nation reaped 2.28 million metric tons of grain, down from 2.31 million tons a year earlier, the Rome-based FAO wrote in a country report on its website dated Aug. 7. Previous expectations were for a record harvest of 2.5 million tons, the report showed.

Wheat production slipped to 1.52 million tons from 1.61 million tons, while the barley harvest rose to 724,000 tons from 681,000 tons, the FAO reported.

The country is expected to import 2.81 million tons of grains in the year through June, compared with 2.76 million tons in 2011-12, according to the FAO.
