Tunisia: Chinese operators partner in cleanup of Gabes

As part of efforts to advance the project to clean up the Gulf of Gabes, the Tunisian government is stepping up consultations with interested operators.

In this context, Mohamed Lamine Chakhari, Minister of Industry and Mrs. Mamia El Banna, Minister of the Environment jointly chaired a working session devoted to examining opportunities for cooperation with the Chinese company (WENGFU Group) and China Development Bank on the treatment of phosphogypsum in the Gulf of Gabes.

Tunisia is working to resolve "in an integral manner the problem of pollution caused by discharges from factories of the Chemical Group to improve the living conditions of local residents," the minister said.

He called on the Chinese group to take part in the international tender to be launched shortly for the purpose by the Tunisian Chemical Group.
