The cargo, estimated at 60 million cfa by Cameroonian customs, was smuggled in 40-foot containers from Asia.
"What caught our attention is that the matchboxes carried the logo and features of "UNALOR" - which was made in Cameroon. We could not understand how matchboxes made in Cameroon could be imported herem" said a customs officer who took part in the seizure on Monday.
According to him, the operation was carried out with officials from Cameroonian company UNALOR to determine the whether the matchboxes were genuine and safe.
"After checking, we realized that these were counterfeit items," he explained.
